Our parent company - Tot-lot Child Care Products - was founded in 1971 to provide products and services to the early childhood education community. In 1984 a publishing division was established to publish our first book, Learning Centers for Young Children, which remains to date our best selling publication.
Since its establishment in 1984, The Publishing Division of Tot-lot Child Care Products has undergone significant change and growth. It has progressed from a very small portion of company endeavors to a substantial component.
Our initial publications were limited to the early childhood education and child development field. Since then the scope of our publications has increased significantly and now includes publications in such diverse areas as astronomy, chemistry, counseling, early childhood, English, music, self-help, technical writing, and more. A substantial portion of our publications include college text books, laboratory manuals, and workbooks.
Because of this evolved diversity, a more generic name for our publishing activities seemed desired. Furthermore, some pragmatic business considerations suggested that a more clearly defined entity than division status was preferred.
With these considerations in mind, Consortium Publishing was founded as a separate company on January 1, 1990.
